Guiding children to God’s grace
In our traditional religious education program we offer sacrament preparation for First Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation.
Reconciliation
First Reconciliation happens in second grade. Children spend the entire year learning about the details of this beautiful sacrament while also learning how to examine their conscience, how to say the Act of Contrition and more. The journey to Reconciliation culminates in a parent-child retreat shortly before the child receives the sacrament.
Communion
Preparation for First Communion happens in third grade, after children have received their First Reconciliation. Throughout the year our preparation for this central sacrament focuses on the meaning of the Eucharist and Jesus’ sacrifice for us. In the spring, we invite parents to a retreat with their child. First Communion happens at a special 1 pm Mass allowing all families and friends to join the celebration.
Confirmation
Confirmation preparation is a two-year process starting in seventh grade and ending in eighth grade with Confirmation. During this time, the youth are invited to explore the meaning of faith in their own lives and come to embrace their Catholic faith on their own. An Confirmation retreat is a required part of the Confirmation process. Our Confirmation celebration is led by the Bishop of the Diocese of Gary.
If your child is of age for one of these sacraments, please enroll them in our Religious Education program. If your child is over the age of 8 and has not participated in Religious Education before, please contact us about our Rite of Christian Initiation Program for Children (RCIC).
